MASTERPIECE

Poul Kjærholm designed the PK25 for his final project of graduating from the School of Arts and Crafts in 1952. Also known as the ‘Piece’ chair, the PK25 is a striking illustration of the eagerness of Kjærholm to turn traditional industrial materials into striking artworks.

CONVENIENT

With graceful curves that befriend the body and wrap the sitter in its embrace, the Pelican is true to Juhl’s idea that “a chair is not just a product of decorative art in a space; it is a form and a space in itself.”

Designer

Inspired by POUL KJÆRHOLM DENMARK (January 8, 1929 – April 18, 1980) Poul Kjærholm’s pieces are sculptures in themselves, but with an understated, subtle quality that makes them ideally suited for accompanying art. In 2004, New York’s Museum of Modern Art installed Kjærholm daybeds, tables and chairs in its galleries and restaurant. In his furniture, Kjærholm emphasized use and wear, with a focus on materials that were durable and improved with age. He viewed each piece as an element to support an architectural space, and was equally interested in how a chair or lounge positioned the sitter in relation to the surrounding floors and walls.
