The Mantis BS1 B Floor Lamp is 150cm in height when fully extended. However, one can pivot the lamp via a joint on the base and orient the light in a specific direction. The shade takes the form of a broadened cone measuring 27cm in diameter and it casts a strong light downwards. The column is made from robust but slender steel, while the shade is formed from aluminium – a combination which keeps the weight down to 4kg.

NATURALLY INSPIRED

The basic idea and shape of the chair was conceived on a hot summer afternoon – while the kids were playing in the shallow water on the beach, Wegner was digging himself into the sand building a comfortable chair to enjoy the holidays.

The Mantis BS1 B Floor Lamp is anchored by a round 29cm diameter base, and the whole ensemble has a width of 69cm. It comes with a 200cm fabric covered cable attached, and this also contains the on/off switch. The appropriate bulb with an E14 socket can be ordered under accessories.

Designer

Inspired by Bernard Schottlander Bernard Schottlander (1924-1999) was born in Germany but moved to England to work when he was 15 years old. He worked at a factory as a welder and simultaneously took sculpture classes at Leeds College of Art. His technical knowledge in welding and also experience in sculpture influenced his work later on.

Our replica of this product is a tribute to him.
