ICONIC DESIGN

In the early 1940s, Charles and Ray Eames spent several years developing a technique for molding plywood into 3D shapes, thus creating a series of furniture and sculptures. Among these first models is the Elephant, created in 1945 and initially designed for children, this iconic Eames design has taken on a life of its own.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

This two-part sculpture proved to be the most technically demanding due to its complex curves, and so the object never reached serial production. Then the Eames Style Elephant was made of plastic, which made it accessible for the target group for which it was originally designed: children.

ELEGANT SIMPLICITY

Whether as an elegant decorations object for the living room or as a sturdy plastic toy for a child’s bedroom or outdoor use or even as a decorative animal figure, this friendly-looking animal with its oversized ears will delight both children and their parents.

Designer

Inspired by CHARLES AND RAY EAMES USA (1907–1978; 1912–1988) Design is for living. That maxim shaped a widespread shift in design during the 1940s and 1950s. It was a revolution of form, an exciting visual language that signaled a new age and a fresh start – and two of its prime movers were Charles and Ray Eames. Charles Ormond Eames, Jr and Bernice Alexandra “Ray” Eames were a husband and wife team whose unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Sleek, sophisticated and simple. Beautifully functional. They had ideas about making a better world, one in which things were designed to fulfill the practical needs of ordinary people and bring greater simplicity and pleasure to our lives.
