The story behind the Borge Mogensen 2214 Sofa (2-seater)Designed in the Copenhagen Guild of Cabinetmakers for the 1946 autumn exhibitions, the 2214 two-seater is a classic of understated elegance. 2214 was designed to make luxury affordable, boasting Morgensen’s signature tall wooden legs, built to allow light to flow easily under the sofa, accentuating the space, like so many of his designs.

Designer

Inspired by BØRGE MOGENSEN DENMARK (April 13, 1914 – October 5, 1972) Functional is the word which best describes Børge Mogensen’s design. The majority of his furniture was designed with industrial production in mind and is characterized by strong and simple lines. His true genius is to be found in his almost scientific analysis of the functionality of a piece of furniture. During his years at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts the young Børge Mogensen developed a close partnership with his mentor Kaare Klint and subsequently also assumed Klint’s approach to simple and functional furniture design.

This product is a tribute to him
